There's No Big Secret

While battling some sports injuries, it’s been easy for me to feel discouraged. Slowly but surely, I’m getting better. As part of my recovery and in an effort to explore non-running exercises, I’ve been trying out new options. Recently, I found myself at a SoulCycle indoor cycling class.
If you’ve ever been to a SoulCycle class, you know how they aim to inspire and uplift you. Towards the end of class, the instructor shouted something over the music that resonated with me. “You know what? There’s no big secret!” She paused, and I was intrigued to see where she was going with this. “No big secret. To get stronger, you’ve got to put in the work!”
This was an a-ha moment for me.
A lot of us expect to get what we want instantly. Think about how we feel when our internet goes out or there’s no parking available when we have somewhere to be.
We’ve grown impatient.
More than trivial things, this thought process applies to a lot of aspects of life. Consider something you really want and place it in this sentence: There’s no big secret to _____, you’ve got to put in the work.
There’s no big secret to living your dreams, you’ve got to put in the work.
There’s no big secret to getting more from your EAM system, you’ve got to put in the work.
There’s no big secret to earning a promotion, you’ve got to put in the work.
There’s no big secret to making an impact, you’ve got to put in the work.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that most things worth having don’t come easy. You have to put in the work. And when you put in the work, I guarantee you will get to your intended destination.
Until next time…we are Advoco, make every minute count.
