Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

This summer I was blessed to go on a vacation sailing around the British Virgin Islands. For those of you who have done any travel to this corner of the world, you know it’s like heaven on earth. Turquoise blue water, constant sea breeze, boat drinks, ahh… serenity.
A trip like this though, requires a lot of work. You have to rent the boat, chart your course, plan meals, among other duties. Not the least of which is picking a good group to join you on the voyage. Within the first day of our trip, something occurred that amazed me.
One of the guys on the boat was overly trustworthy with his LifeProof phone case when he decided to jump off the top of the boat and “film it.” I will spare you the details of his wife’s reaction to him letting go of his brand-new iPhoneX.
The following morning, before he even woke up, everyone else was buzzing with ideas on how to retrieve the phone from the sea’s floor. The next thing I knew, 3 people put snorkels on and jumped in the water to search for the phone. About 40 minutes later, it was found and miraculously, it was working.
Throughout the week, this type of synergy kept occurring. When one of our group got sick, another, who happened to be a doctor, spent the afternoon on the boat tending to our sick friend. Each of us had our special talents that we used to help each other.
The point is we need each other. We can’t do it alone. One person’s strength is another person’s weakness. Building a productive, diverse, fun team is high on my priority list and hopefully it’s on yours too.
The key to any successful mission is to get the right crew on board. Admiral William McRaven may have said it best in his book, Make Your Bed, “If you want to change the world…find someone to help you paddle.”
Or as we say often at Advoco, teamwork makes the dreamwork.
Until next time…we are Advoco, make every minute count.
