Leadership is About Influence

I stumbled across this article on LinkedIn and knew I had to share it.
The article is titled 10 Things Bosses Need to Do to Set the Right Example to Their Team. But the great part is these tips don’t just apply to “bosses” – they are things that we all can be doing. And as Marty says, you can lead from any seat. Leadership is about doing the right thing, showing people the right way. It means having influence.
And when you have influence, you have to set the right example because you have a big impact on those around you, whether you realize it or not. Behaviors are contagious.
The list includes:
Giving people full attention when they talk and, yes, keeping your phone and other distractions away
Being punctual by showing up to meetings on time and ending them on time
Following through on your commitments
Being mindful of what you say around your team – gossip only leads to more gossip
Having fun and not being serious all the time! (insert disco man dancing emoji)
Maintaining a good work-life balance by not working late every night and responding to emails on weekends
Holding productive meetings because, again, quoting my fearless leader here, “If you don’t have a plan, stay in the car”
Acknowledging failures. By doing so, you will get more respect, and failures are learning opportunities in my book
Prioritizing learning and development
Acting with integrity – sometimes the hardest one to accomplish, but the most important
People are watching you and the way you act matters. Every day you can set a positive mood and a positive example in your workplace. We all have the potential to be great leaders, and I think these 10 things are a great place to start.
Until next time...we are Advoco, make every minute count.
