Do you have a Job, a Career, or a Calling?

As part of the Advoco Book Club, I recently read Big Potential by Shawn Achor. In the book, he describes three different ways that people earn a living – a job, a career, and a calling.

Do you have a job?

“A job is merely something to endure in order to get a salary.” Do you show up at work, do enough to get by, collect your paycheck, and go home?

Do you have a career?

“A career is work that gives you prestige or position within society.” Does your work allow you to feel important in your personal life?

Do you have a calling?

“A calling is work that you view as integral to your identity and meaning in life.” Is your work essential to your life?

Think about your current work situation, not just through a paycheck but through personal happiness and potential.

By moving from a job to a career to a calling, you will be able to unlock all of the potential within you. Your new self will be able to achieve a level of success that is more fulfilling than just a paycheck. You will be happier than just knowing you have a prestigious position. Unlocking your “Big Potential” starts with a higher calling at work and in our personal lives.

Until next time…we are Advoco, make every minute count
