Making Edits

I draw a lot of my a-Minute inspiration from social media, so I guess it isn’t all bad!

Recently I was scrolling my Instagram feed when I came across a quote:

You can always edit a bad page – you just can’t edit a blank one.

This quote is especially poignant when it comes to motivating myself to write an a-Minute, but it’s true of our everyday lives as well.

How many times have you thought about starting some big task, only to be deterred because it seems too daunting?

We’ve all been there. Starting that big garage clean out, tackling the new project at work, reorganizing our closet. When the task seems too large, sometimes it seems easier to avoid altogether and not risk doing something wrong.

Colin explained it in a previous a-Minute as analysis paralysis. There are too many options, too many ways to turn, and we fear making a misstep.

But then I remember the quote I mentioned above. You can always make edits, but you can’t edit a blank document.

It’s cliché, but the first step is truly the hardest. But once you take that first step, then you can take another small step, and then another. It doesn’t matter how small or large the steps are, what matters is you’re making progress.

So, go ahead and tackle that garage clean out or the new project! Take it one step at a time. You can always go back and make changes later – but not if you haven’t started!
