Are You Ready

Every other ad on the TV, radio, Pandora, etc. has something to do with politics.

These ads all tend to run together for me, but recently I heard one that really caught my ear. The politician is telling a story of when he was a young boy. He said that every morning his dad would wake him up, tell him to get dressed, and get his shoes on. Over the years, the young boy challenged his dad, “Why?” or “What do I have to do?”

Every time his dad had one answer, “Because you need to get ready.” Often, the boy would ask, “Ready for what?” Again, his dad had an answer: “You need to be ready for when I figure out what you need to do.” The ad goes on to say that the politician had spent his life “getting ready,” and now he was “ready” to serve.

Now, do I believe any politician is truly “ready”? Not at all. But the message is quite interesting.

I started asking myself, am I ready? And, then I stopped and thought, what am I supposed to be ready for? And it hit me! I need to be ready for anything that might come my way.

That sounds like I am suggesting you predict the future. No, I don’t see you all getting your crystal balls out. But I do believe that if you want something in life, you should prepare to receive it.

What does that mean? No, there’s no fairy god mother waiting to waive a wand and hand you your every wish. Here’s a secret: you already have the magic wand. It’s you. Yes, Y-O-U. If you want something, start getting ready for it. If you want a new job, start applying. If you want a new house, start saving.

If you want _____, what are you doing to get ready for it?

It's up to you. What are willing to get ready for? What are you willing to work for? If you want it, do your part to get ready for it.
