Be a Character

What makes a memorable book, TV show, or movie?

I haven’t done any official research, but my guess is most people would say a certain character. For Seinfeld fans that may be Kramer (he was my favorite), for Breaking Bad it might be Heisenberg (must admit I didn’t watch this show), for the new Star Wars maybe it was Baby Yoda. People remember these characters.

Your character as a leader is the cornerstone of effective, memorable leadership. You get to decide your character. You can define it, decide what beliefs are core to you, and how you want to act on those beliefs.

Do you want to be the crazy neighbor with the funky hair that everyone likes but is always getting in a jam? Do you want to be the big, bad, intimidating person that only cares about results? Do you want to be an adorable, green future guide to the Jedi nation? The decision is yours to make!

The character you decide to be will drive your behaviors and the behaviors of others around you. When you have consistency in your behaviors and have confidence to make deep connections, people will remember you.

Your attitude is felt by others. Your actions are seen by others. Your words are heard by others. Are you a character worth remembering and cheering for, or are you a character people will root against? The choice is yours!
