Is It Written In The Stars, Or Do you Write the Stars?

Based on a suggestion from my manager, I have been reading The Principle of the Path by Andy Stanley. In the book, Stanley discusses ideas around fate and whether things are written in the stars, or if we write our own stars.
Written in the stars, as fate would have it, etc. are sayings we often use. If something is written in the stars, it was always going to happen. It was meant to be and was made to happen by some external force that controls the future. No matter what we do or do not do, this event was going to come true, and we couldn’t change it. This can leave us feeling helpless and out of control.
To contradict this belief, Stanley presents the idea that you are the author and can “write the stars” yourself. The idea is that we live in a world with a principle of the path. Every decision has an outcome, and every path has a destination. How we direct that path is critical. The important thing to understand is that you control the direction of your path, and ultimately your fate, and it is based on every decision you make.
In the book, Stanley also suggests that at the very least, we can “rewrite” our stars. Obviously, there are things happening around us that we physically cannot control. But how we respond to these situations is in our control. Our responses and decisions to situations outside of our control still direct our path, and ultimately affects our fate.
So, next time you’re questioning your fate – ask yourself, are you helping write the stars?
