Is the Grass Always Greener?

Scrolling around on social media one day recently, I came across a quote from Neil Barringham. It says, “The grass is greener where you water it.” I found this to be thought provoking.

The line most of us know says, “The grass is always greener on the other side” but this quote from Barringham takes the opposite approach.

In the classic line about the other side being greener, we are led to believe that if you are somewhere else you will get what you want just by showing up.

There is a chance that the other side may be greener, but is there not also a chance that the other side will not be? If you are always hoping for something better and not working for something better, then you are at the mercy of the situation. You are constantly looking elsewhere for a better option, instead of working to make where you are better. You may never be happy with where you are.

However, if you appreciate what you have and work towards maintaining or improving it, then you will always be happy. True appreciation for your situation will lead to much more happiness than relying on luck to get you there.

In my experience, the goals I have accomplished through hard work and perseverance have been much more rewarding than the ones I was able to accomplish simply by luck.

So water the grass you have instead of worrying if somewhere else is greener!
