Prideful or Humble?

I saw a quote recently that said: Pride is concerned with who is right, humility is concerned with what is right.

This is a great way to think about our approach to delicate or complicated situations. When you find yourself in a tight spot, are you more worried about being right or doing what is right?

In the world we live in today, this has a lot of weight. You could apply this to the current political climate, COVID related challenges (masks, social distancing, etc.), or social movements. Hard situations become even worse when everyone is focused on being right, instead of doing what is right. If we could shift our focus, I think there would be a lot more harmony and peace.

I’m a firm believer that how we handle issues, both big and small, says a lot about who we are and what we stand for. When something goes wrong, are you being prideful or humble? When the going gets tough, are your actions reflective of what you believe and stand for?

I don’t think anyone would say they want to be known for being prideful. But being humble? I think that’s something we’d all agree is a positive attribute.

Next time you find yourself in a hard situation, maybe it’s a difficult project at work, or a hard conversation with a friend, remember this quote and ask yourself are you being prideful or humble?

Until next time…we are Advoco, make every minute count.
