The Bigger the Ambition

For those of you that follow Gary Vaynerchuk on social media, you know he is a prolific content creator. For those that do not, I highly recommend checking him out. His content is a mix of advice and inspiration that always comes across as sincere. The most recent post of his that got me thinking was a statement that said, “The bigger the ambition, the slower you need to go.”

This hit home to me because we all want success now, along with instant gratification and, everything on demand. We are constantly trying to speed up the timeline of our lives. That is why his words struck me.

Rarely does a huge success happen overnight and when we have that expectation, we will almost always be left disappointed. If you investigate people or companies that you think are overnight successes, you will quickly learn there were years of work put in prior to their rapid rise.

Another way to look at this is concerning how we make decisions. On the path to success if we are seeking a bigger ambition, we need to be deliberate in our decision making. Decisions mean more when the reward is greater. In the same manner that you cannot expect overnight success, you cannot always make flippant decisions. It is important to have big ambitions and to set wildly important goals, but it is also important to have the proper perspective. That is why it is important to move slower the bigger the ambition.
