Tomorrow is Coming

I don’t know about you, but during COVID, I’ve been catching up on my movie watching. One that we recently watched was Second Act with Jennifer Lopez. It’s a comedy with a sweet message. Rotten Tomatoes gives a good overview: Value Shop assistant manager Maya Vargas wants only one thing for her 43rd birthday -- a promotion. While her résumé may not scream upper management, her track record certainly does. Vargas is an innovator who listens to her customers and delivers results. When she loses the job to a college-educated candidate, Maya sets out to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts -- and it's never too late for a second act.
One of the lines in the movie that struck me was, “Everyday you wake up and have a second chance to do whatever you want, to be whoever you want. The only thing stopping you is you.” That’s some pretty impactful stuff for a comedy flick!
I love this quote, but I’ve got my own twist on it. My quote would be, “Everyday you wake up with a chance to be a better you, make different choices, or just make a difference. So, what are you planning for tomorrow?”
I love the hope this statement gives. Today might not have gone your way – a project might be getting off track, there might have been an argument with a loved one, or something else didn’t go according to plan. But here’s the great part, tomorrow is coming and is a new day! A day full of new choices, different options, and a chance to start again.
When things seem to be spiraling, remember, you always have a chance to be a better you and make a difference!
