What Does a Flower Do

Reading through my social media, a fellow University of Georgia alum posted a quote that I would like to pass on to you. Hopefully, it provides a little positive thinking for you today. The quote is from Zen Shin and says, “A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.”

Although you probably think of Spring when you think of blooming flowers, there are flowers that bloom all year round; think of a Christmas cactus. So, no matter what time of year, I think this is an applicable quote.

Blooming without the worry of your neighbor’s thoughts can really be freeing. Go out and do something you enjoy even if it is out of the ordinary. Take a painting class, learn how to play pickleball, read a book you always wanted to but thought it was silly. Bloom and enjoy yourself while doing it. It doesn’t matter what’s happening next to you with your neighbor!

I know it is a little silly, maybe a little embarrassing, but give it a shot. I am trying to follow my own advice and bloom right now!

The next time you grow tired of competing for trivial things, like social media likes or who can get out of traffic first, or maybe you are in a rut and want to try something new, think of this quote and bloom with happiness!
