What's In Your Cup?

We’ve all been here before - you’re holding a cup of coffee when out of nowhere, someone bumps into you. You spill the coffee everywhere. Now you’re frustrated and there’s coffee all over the place.
So, why did you spill the coffee?
Most people would probably answer, “Because someone bumped into me!” But that’s the wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because that was what was in your cup. If it had been tea in your cup, you would have spilled tea, or water, or whatever else might have been in there. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.
Our lives aren’t much different than this spilled coffee scenario. When life comes along and shakes you or knocks you off course, whatever is inside you will come out.
If we’re filled with bitterness, anger, and frustration, that’s what will spill out when we’re in a tough spot. It’s easy to put up a façade, but when we get rattled, that’s when what’s really inside of us comes out.
So, what’s in your cup? When things get hard, what spills out? If you find yourself in a difficult situation at work or at home, do you spill over with positivity or negativity?
Let’s all work to fill our cups with the good stuff! Be filled with joy, forgiveness, kindness, empathy, and humility. That way, when things don’t go as planned, what spills over makes everyone around us better.
Until next time…we are Advoco, make every minute count.
