Where You Are Right Now

Someone recently posted a short thought on social media that truly made me stop and think. It was short, sweet, and to the point, but it piqued my interest. The post said, Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.
Personally, I am always looking to the future. I want to be better, do better, and be more than I am right now. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with striving to be a better version of yourself, I believe that by adopting this mentality 100% percent of the time, it causes us to miss the small moments of joy that are all around us.
When we focus all our efforts on the future, we tend to miss what is happening around us.
Where you are, in the present moment, means something. It is the start of the road ahead. We can’t better ourselves, do something more, or be something greater, if we don’t acknowledge where we are, right here, right now.
You may be asking yourself, what’s so great about where I am right now? The truth is, you are making an impact, whether you realize it or not, on someone and/or something at this very moment. Why would you want to miss out on that blessing by always looking ahead?
Now, this doesn’t mean we don’t continue to strive for bigger and better things. It just means we take a moment to acknowledge our present existence. It means that we find the silver linings in moments that don’t immediately give us a sense of happiness, and we find those small moments of joy that we may otherwise overlook.
So, the next time you find yourself lost in the thoughts of your future, just remember, you can’t get where you’re going without starting where you’re at. So, make sure you know where you are and revel in the joys of the moment!
